Monsignor Sam R. Miglarese papers
Scope and Contents
This collection consists primarily of subject files Rev. Msgr. Sam R. Miglarese maintained during his tenure as Vicar General for the Diocese of Charleston, 1990-1998. However, a few files do predate his elevation to that office. The collection consists of two series: Transfer 2004 and Transfer 2010. Records in the first series were recovered from a storage closet of the Chancery 30 April 2004. They were weeded and rehoused. Original arrangement and folder labeling were maintained. All added notes are enclosed in editorial brackets. The bulk of the materials are from the mid 1990s. Materials dated after his tenure were additions to folders made by his successor, Rev. Msgr. James (Jim) A. Carter. Materials in the second series were part of records recovered from the second floor attic of the downtown Chancery building (119 Broad Street) and transferred to the archives in February 2010. Materials include various correspondence and subject files from Miglarese's tenure as Vicar General for the Diocese of Charleston, and his pastoral assignment as administrator of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist during the same time period. This part of the collection was weeded and rehoused, maintaining original arrangement and folder labeling when applicable. All added notes are enclosed in editorial brackets. Materials also include files from diocesan curia, pastoral council, and one (1) 1994 finance council meeting, and are arranged chronologically. Materials dated after his tenure were additions to folders made by his successor, Rev. Msgr. James (Jim) A. Carter.
