Biographical or Historical Information
The Walterboro Press and Standard, a newspaper serving Walterboro, South Carolina, began publication in 1877. The weekly newspaper was owned by the Wightman Smoak family. In December, 1992, Smith Newspapers, of Fort Payne, Alabama, purchased the publication, and soon afterward the Press and Standard began publishing twice a week.
