The Patriot newsletter collection
Scope and Contents
The collection includes an incomplete series of twelve issues (with some duplicates) of “The Patriot.” Issues include text and photograph news of Catholic, Charleston area service men and women and their families, pastoral events and assignments of local clergy, and local events coordinated by the NCCS or USO such as dances, parties, service breakfast, and other social gatherings. The issues also give attention to graduates or students of Bishop England High School and St. Francis Xavier nursing school. News of those institutions includes sporting events (especially BEHS football) and nursing assignments. All issues gifted are post addressed to Seth J. Ferrara, Sr., grandfather of the donor, Marie Ferrara of Charleston, SC, who gifted the material to the Diocese of Charleston from her family papers.
