Property Appraisal records
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of original and photocopied materials regarding appraisal of real property, windows, and fine arts within the boundaries of the Diocese of Charleston. Materials were transferred to the archives from the Chancery on multiple occasions, and were officially accessioned on June 17, 2009. There are three series in this collection: Henry Schachte & Sons, Catholic Mutual, and American Appraisal. Records in the first two series are arranged alphabetically by city/town and then by parish; with the exception of Charleston and the surrounding area, which was placed at the beginning of each appraisal by the appraisers. Materials include photocopied and original photographs, appraisal reports, and documentation. In the third series, the records consists of PDFs and MS Excel digital files. The Excel files serve as indices to the PDF appraisals. Other property appraisals from c.1936, c.1942, and c.1956 were removed and placed in the archives’ parish files by Father William C. Burn during his tenure as diocesan archivist.
