Rosary beads
Scope and Contents
Rosary; gold metal with gold metal grooved beads (in three sections called "decades"); gold plate (triangular) at center of rosary and gold cross attached to bottom strand of beads; in relief on metal plate in center, "Marie Concue Sans Peche Priez Pour Nous/Qui Avons Recours a Vous-1830" and image of a woman; "Uni/Versel/Jubile 1865" on back side of cross Bishop Lynch presented the rosary to the order of Ursuline Nuns of Columbia, S.C. The nuns raffled off the rosary ca. 1890s. Andrew J. Riley, the donor's uncle, won the rosary in the raffle and gave it to his mother, Mrs. Patrick Riley. She gave it to her daughter, Miss Katie (Kitty) Riley, Annie A. Riley. In 1992 Joseph P. Riley, Sr. gifted the rosary to the Diocese of Charleston and was accessioned by Sister Anne Francis Campbell, O.L.M., the diocesan archivist at the time. Approx. 24 inches in length.

Custodial History
Bishop Lynch presented the rosary to the order of Ursuline Nuns of Columbia, S.C. The nuns raffled off the rosary ca. 1890s. Andrew J. Riley, the donor's uncle, won the rosary in the raffle and gave it to his mother, Mrs. Patrick Riley. She gave it to her daughter, Miss Katie (Kitty) Riley, Annie A. Riley. In 1992 Joseph P. Riley, Sr. gifted the rosary to the Diocese of Charleston and was accessioned by Sister Anne Francis Campbell, O.L.M., the diocesan archivist at the time. *Note: After speaking with Sister Anne Francis Campbell, O.L.M. this record was changed on 31 August 2010 after to correct the gift date and donor name from Annie A.
